Melissa organizes and hosts events for The Writing Hive, a networking project she created for women writers, librarians, publishing professionals, and teachers. The goal of the Hive is to allow these creatives to engage in uplifting spaces that support their professional and personal aspirations.

Melissa is a volunteer Municipal Liaison for the New York City region of National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. During the month of November, you can find her hosting events all over the city along with her fellow MLs.

NaNoWriMo isn’t just about hosting events and building community, though: it’s also about writing ALL OF THE WORDS and representing your home region by rocking fundraising swag that helps support Wrimos throughout the year. Melissa’s very proud to be a part of the NYC region, which found a way to bring writers together even through the most challenging of times!

Melissa is a Co-Regional Advisor for the Metro NY chapter of the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators, an organization she was first encouraged to join by one of her favorite childhood authors, Bruce Coville. As the newest member of the team, Melissa is still getting to know the wonderful community of the Metro NY chapter. So far, it’s been a fun journey, and she looks forward to more happy days with these amazingly creative folks!
