Melissa is an active part of the larger New York writing community. She is grateful to be part of a fabulous critique group, along with fantasy writer Sara Carrero and YA writer Eva Papka (all pictured above on a summer writing retreat).
The three of them cohost Eva’s brain-child, Word Magic Chat, a weekly event on Twitter for writers and fans of sci-fi/fantasy. Word Magic Chat happens every Tuesday at 7:30 p.m. EST and is open to anyone with a Twitter account. Follow @WordMagicChat on Twitter and learn how to use #WordMagicChat to join in the fun!

Melissa, Eva, and Sara are Municipal Liaisons for the New York City region of National Novel Writing Month, also known as NaNoWriMo. During the month of November, you can find them hosting events all over the city along with their fellow MLs. They sometimes even manage to sneak some extra fun in during April and July for Camp NaNoWriMo!
NaNoWriMo isn’t just about hosting events and building community, though: it’s also about writing ALL OF THE WORDS and representing your home region by rocking fundraising swag that helps support Wrimos throughout the year. Melissa’s very proud to be a part of the NYC region, which found a way to bring writers together even through the most challenging of times!

Melissa also hosts The Writing Hive, a networking project for women writers, librarians, publishing professionals, and teachers. The goal of the Hive is to allow women in the book world to engage in uplifting spaces that support their professional and creative aspirations.
