Melissa loves to be active in her local writing communities in and around New York City. She is currently a Moderator for the NYC Society of Wayward Writers. The Society is a fairly new endeavor, so she is putting all of her focus and organizing energy into the writing challenges that the group is undertaking in their inaugural year.

Previously, Melissa was a Municipal Liaison for NYCNoWriMo (the New York City region of National Novel Writing Month) and a Regional Advisor for the NY Metro Region of SCBWI (the Society of Children’s Book Writers and Illustrators). She was the founder and organizer of The Writing Hive, a project where Melissa put writers, librarians, publishing industry professionals, and teachers together to celebrate their shared love of writing and books. She also cohosted Word Magic Chat on Twitter with her critique group, an evening writerly chat that met weekly for a few years.
