Twitter Event: Magical Monday

If you’ve read the About page for this site, then you know that every week, I cohost a Twitter chat for writers and fantasy fans called Magical Monday (@MagicMonWords) along with the other members of #BLKH, my amazing writing critique group. Magical Monday was Eva’s brainchild, and since she came up with it last year, our critique group has had an absolute blast hosting the event each week and engaging with our followers. #MagicMon boasts enchanting images courtesy of Sara and her artistic talents, and all of us write creative questions that we hope our followers will relate to and enjoy.

We knew we wanted this to be an inclusive event more than anything else, so instead of deciding between a chat that would cater to fantasy fans or one that was designed for writers, we decided to have our cake and eat it, too. Magical Monday includes questions for fantasy readers, fantasy viewers, writers, and any combination of the above you can imagine! We also do sci-fi and adventure crossover weeks for our followers in adjacent fandoms.

The chat has evolved since it began in March 2017. Right now, we run the event every Monday from 7:00 to 10:00 p.m. EST. Our schedule usually looks like this:

  • 7:00 Welcome and 25-minute writing sprint
  • 7:30 Fantasy/writing questions and chat
  • 8:20 A moment or two of silliness (games, polls, etc.)
  • 8:40 More fantasy/writing questions and chat
  • 9:30 Our second 25-minute writing sprint
  • 10:00 Farewells and a sneak peek at next week’s theme

If you’re not into writing sprints but would love to talk about fantasy, then you can attend the question segment of the chat. If you need to get some writing done but have no time to talk, you can join our first sprint, grab some dinner, and come back in time for the second sprint. If you live far from our time zone, you can tweet your answers when it’s convenient for you, and we’ll happily read and reply to them. As I said, the event is all about inclusivity and fun! While the hosts are signed on during scheduled chat hours, we’re happy to interact with our followers whenever they happen to join us.

And if you’re new to Twitter and shy about joining events, I hope you’ll consider attending a session of Magical Monday. I’m bound to be a bit biased, I know, but I really do believe that our followers are some of the most fun and generous out there, and we always have a great time. Simply follow the account so you can see our questions, and if you want to follow all of the participants’ replies, search for #MagicMon.

If you have any questions about the chat, all of #BLKH are available on Twitter before, during, and after our events. Eva, Kayleigh, Sara, and myself are always happy to answer Magical Monday tweets! I’d also be glad to answer any inquiries via the comments section for this post.

We’ve been away for the winter break, but as we told our followers a few weeks ago:

And that’s today! So if you’re looking for a way to make your Monday brighter, come join us in the magic tonight.

Until next time, may your Monday be full of enchantment and dazzling words,
Melissa
